Belonging and Community

OUR CULTURE

The Department of Mathematics supports and aligns with the University of Utah's mission to foster student success by preparing students from diverse backgrounds for lives of impact as leaders and citizens.  We aim to uphold a culture that:

  • Commits to student success and engagement by providing personalized support and engaged learning experiences that increase access to the university and facilitate persistence through degree completion.
  • Engages in cutting-edge teaching and research that foster inter- and trans-disciplinary innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship, and knowledge and technology transfer.
  • Celebrates the rich diversity of people as well as creative and intellectual traditions by being inclusive in every respect.
  • Encourages fair and inclusive teaching practice that addresses the specific needs of our undergraduate and graduate population (including Math and Math Teaching major/minors, Master students, and Ph.D. students).
  • Creates a place for people to bring concerns, to empower people to speak up and to work on improving relationships and social interactions in the department.
