Meet Dalyana Guerra
Daly Guerra joined the Department of Mathematics as a teaching postdoc in 2022 and became an Assistant Professor (Lecturer) this year.
Tell us a little about your background.
I am originally from Rochester, New York. I earned my master's degree at Syracuse
University in Syracuse, New York. I always knew that teaching was my primary focus
and what I’ve always been passionate about. I joined this Math Department as a Teaching
Post Doc back in Fall 2022. During this semester, I’ve transitioned into my new position
as a Career Line Faculty member and course coordinator of Math 1050 & Math 1080.
What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy focuses on creating a classroom environment that is empathetic
and failure tolerant. My goal is to create a classroom environment in which students
have the ability to freely express their needs and concerns while at the same time
emphasizing the importance of personal accountability. I also encourage courageous
thinking by encouraging students to freely express their ideas and learn from their
mistakes.
What do you enjoy most about being at the University of Utah?
What I enjoy most about being at the University of Utah is the students. They are
the main driving force in everything I do. As a course coordinator, part of my job
is to support other instructors in their own teaching journey in hopes of improving
the collective experience of all the Math 1050 & Math 1080 students.
What are three things you like to do in your spare time?
I enjoy walking my dogs, socializing with friends, and participating in my artistic
hobbies.
