Mckay Jensen
I have a double major in Mathematics (Computational Emphasis) and Economics. While at the U, I've participated in research in machine learning, economics, and mathematical finance. I've also worked as a tutor in the Math Center for the past year and a half. In the fall, I'll be starting an economics Ph.D. program at the University of Chicago.
Dylan Johnson
I'm starting my Ph.D. in Mathematics at Duke next fall where I am hoping to study number theory. After that, I'm not sure what I want to do but I will likely pursue a research position in academia. Outside of math, I like to rock climb and travel.
Delaney Mosier
For the past 3 years, I have been working on research with Dr. Ken Golden on the behavior and evolution of polar sea ice. After I graduate, I will be starting my Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at the U. I served as the chair of the math USAC over the last year and am a member of AWM, SIAM, and PME.
Kira Parker
I am interested in geometric group theory as well as math education. Next year I will be pursuing a Ph.D. in the latter at the University of Arizona, where I hope to research experiences of queer students in mathematics and how professors can better support them. Outside of math, I enjoy climbing and watching anime.
Chase Zagorec-Marks
This fall I will be entering a Ph.D. program in Physics at Colorado University at Boulder. l hope to join a group studying quantum computing. I'd like to thank the department for preparing me for graduate studies (the strong math background provided here will be a great aid in my future endeavors) and this award.
Makayla Stewart
I'm going into my 5th year double majoring in Biology and Mathematics. I am passionate about the environment and I believe a strong understanding of both biology and mathematics is essential to solve our current climate crisis. I am working in the research lab of Dr. Kenneth Golden, where we are creating a model of algal sea ice populations.
Isaac Martin
Isaac Martin, a junior majoring in Mathematics and Physics, originally intended to pursue a Ph.D. in Physics before discovering his talents and interests in mathematics. A rock climber and pianist, he completed a Research Experience for Undergraduates last summer at UC Santa Barbara. His research interests include commutative algebra and the mathematics of condensed matter physics, and he currently works on positive characteristic commutative algebra under Thomas Polstra, an NSF postdoc, and Karl Schwede, a professor at the U.
Brian Udall
I am an incoming senior and Mathematics major at the U. I have a particular interest in geometry and how the subject intermixes with group theory and dynamics. My goal is to become a professor, where I can teach and work with other people as passionate as I am.
Anthony Do
My name is Anthony Do and I am double majoring in Mathematics and Quantitative Analysis of Markets & Organizations. I have participated in mathematic conferences and research. Additionally, I am a part of the Honors College and am currently writing a thesis on the statistical analysis of financial aid.
Elijah Counterman
I have always enjoyed the sciences and have found math to be fundamental to all of them. I plan on double majoring in Mathematics and Chemistry, and I look forward to attending the U in the fall!
Calvin Lee
Calvin Lee is a Sophomore in the Computer Science and Applied Mathematics programs at the U. He is a member of the Math USAC and helps run HackTheU which promotes innovation in universities around the world. Calvin is very passionate about mathematics and hopes to continue learning about it for the rest of his life.
Emil Geisler
My name is Emil Geisler, and I am a freshman at the University of Utah. I'm majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science, and hope to go to graduate school in the future. Math competitions have been an important part of my life since middle school and I am psyched that I am still able to compete in college! I love rock climbing, skiing, and spending time with my friends.
