and solve more problems from other sources that you can find in Ash's book
and/or can dig up in your library
and/or internet research. The exam will be open notes, open book, etc.
The same general guidelines apply as they did for Exams 1 and 2 (see below).
- Week 8. Ideally, you should be in command of the following
well before next Friday. Another assignment will be posted next
Friday, together with a study guide for the exam.

and solve more problems from other sources that you can find in Ash's book
and/or can dig up in your library
and/or internet research. The exam will be open notes, open book, etc.
The same general guidelines apply as they did for Exam 1 (see below).

well before next Wednesday.
p.45. #8.1, 8.2, 8.4, 8.7, 8.8, 8.9.
Exam 1 Prep. The first exam covers the material of Lectures 1 through
8 of the course lecture notes (inclusive). If you have been reading
throughout then the best study method is to read Lecture 8, and then solve
problems from the lectures notes, go over the assigned work from Weeks 1-3,
and solve more problems from other sources that you can find in Ash's book
and/or can dig up in your library
and/or internet research. The exam will be open notes, open book, etc.
You can bring in a hand calculator, etc. However, the work that you present
in your exam must be completely yours. You should remember that
"open book/notes exams" are not "easy" exams. Rather,
they have higher standards of depth and scholarship than closed notes, closed
book exams. So please come well prepared, knowing the definitions and methods
before the exam time.
