History of Mathematics: Grading Rubric (for the long and short papers)

Average work typically receives a grade of "C." Papers should be well above average in order to merit an "A." Each paper will be graded according to the following guidelines. Several characteristics ni any one of these categories will likely lead to the grade indicated:

A (90%-100%)
superior work; well above basic expectations; the instructions were followed; the work was complete, well-researched and well prepared, as well as thoughtfully composed; the work contained no grammatical or mathematical errors; the presentation shows expression and interest in the topic; the work was submitted on time.
B (80%-89%)
above-average work; the instructions were followed; above-average expectations; overall completeness; thoughtful composition; successfully communicated with a few [minor] errors; submitted on time.
C (70%-79%)
solid work, as expected; instructions were generally followed; incomplete, minimal research; contains mathematical flaws; contains a few grammatical errors; communicated either with lack of expression, or with some omissions; little evidence of interest in the topic; submitted on time.
D (60%-69%)
adequate though minimal work; failed to follow instructions carefully; major omissions; lack of thoughtfulness; lack of research; unclear; serious, distracting errors; significant lack of preparation; submitted a little late.
E (0%-59%)
inadequate work; incomplete; considerable lack of thoughtfulness; many errors; poorly communicated; submitted late.
