This College of Science program is for freshman women interested in science and engineering and has an over fifteen year track record of success. ACCESS encourages young women to pursue scientific and engineering careers by providing them with mentoring and support structures at the very start of their college experience. High school seniors who are admitted to the ACCESS cohort receive a stipend of $3,500, participate in a novel eight-week, half-day program during the summer before their freshman year, and are placed into a University lab or research position during the Spring of the freshman year. VIGRE Steering Committee member Nick Korevaar organizes the portion of ACCESS devoted to mathematics. He is assisted by VIGRE graduate students.
