Announcements
- August 3rd - The final grades have now been posted to the University system. It is done. If you haven't picked up your final yet, but would like to do so, they will be available from the secretary in the math department office.
- August 1st - The final exam is now graded, and the grades are posted on canvas. The final, along with its solutions, are posted below. The average on the final was 217 out of 250. The standard deviation was 23, and the maximum score was 253. The final letter grades for the class are now calculated, and are available on Canvas. Every person in the class did better on the final than on their worst midterm, and for every person except one the worst midterm was the third. So, for almost everybody, the third midterm was dropped, and the final counted as 40% of the final grade. The grade breakdown was as follows 92-100 - A, 89-91 A-, 87-88 B+, 81-86 B, 79-80 B-, 77-78 C+, 72-76 C, 69-71 C-, 67-68 D+, 61-66 D, 59-61 D-, 0-58 F. Also, I added a bonus for some people. If your percentage on the final was greater than your class percentage, I used your percentage on the final when calculating your final grade. So, for example, if your overall class percentage was 79%, but your percentage on the final was 83%, I gave you a B instead of a B-, as an 83% is a B. I'll be having office hours tomorrow and on Friday from 8:30 AM until 10:30 AM for those of you who want to come by and pick up your final and/or talk about your final grade. I'll be posting final grades to the University system on Friday afternoon. Thank you all for a great, albeit brief, class. Good luck in all you do. -Dylan
- July 31st - Quiz 12 is graded, and grades are posted on Canvas. The quiz, along with its solutions, are posted below. Today in class we finished section 14.4, and covered section 14.5. There was also a brief overview of sections 14.6 and 14.7. For the final exam tomorrow, you'll be expected to know the material from the sections we've covered in class up to section 14.5. You won't be responsible for sections 14.6 and 14.7. Speaking of the final, it's tomorrow from 10:30 AM until 1:30 PM, in our usual classroom. See you there!
- July 30th - Quiz 11 is graded, and grades are posted on Canvas. The quiz, along with its solutions, are posted below. Today in class we covered sections 14.2 and 14.3, and we began section 14.4. The quiz tomorrow will be on sections 14.2 and 14.3. Also, the additional review problems for the final exam are posted below. Please keep in mind that, like today, class tomorrow will go until 1:30 PM. See you all tomorrow.
- July 29th - Midterm 3 is now graded, and grades are posted on Canvas. The class average was 122, with a standard deviation of 27.58. The maximum score was 179. This is MUCH lower than the class average for the first two midterms. We'll talk about this tomorrow in class. I might curve this midterm, or I might not. I won't decide until after the final, so if you're worried about your final grade, I'd suggest you study as much as you can for the final. The midterm and the solutions are posted below. The quiz tomorrow will be on sections 13.8 and 14.1 from the textbook. Also, please remember that tomorrow we'll have class until 1:30 PM, and the quiz will be from 11:45 AM until 12:15 PM, not from 11:30 AM until noon. See you all tomorrow.
- July 26th - Today in class we covered sections 13.8 and 14.1. The midterm tomorrow will be on sections 13.1 - 13.4, 13.6 - 13.8, and 14.1. It will not cover section 14.2 as previously stated. The midterm review problems have been updated and modified to reflect this change. Quiz 10 has been graded, and the grades are posted on Canvas. The (correct) solutions are posted below. The midterm will start at 10:30 AM tomorrow, and you will have 2 hours to complete it. You can use three sheets of notes, front and back. Finally, we've fallen a bit behind our schedule, so next week we'll have class until 1:30 PM on both Monday and Tuesday. The quiz will be at 11:45 instead of 11:30, so each section will last an hour and 15 minutes. See you for the midterm tomorrow!
- July 25th - Today in class we covered sections 13.4, 13.6, and 13.7. The quiz tomorrow will be on these sections. Quiz 9 has been graded, and the grades are posted in Canvas. The solutions to quiz 9 are posted below. The practice/study problems for midterm 3 are posted below as well. Please note that tomorrow class will go until 1:30. We'll have a half hour of lecture after our quiz, where we'll be covering new material, and then an hour long review from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM. See you tomorrow!
- July 23rd - Today in class we covered sections 13.1, 13.2, and 13.3. The quiz on Wednesday will cover these sections. Quiz 8 has been graded, and the grades are posted in Canvas. The solutions are posted below. Also, please note that tomorrow is a holiday. Therefore, there is NO CLASS tomorrow. See you on Wednesday.
- July 22nd - The midterms are now graded, and the grades are posted on Canvas. The solutions are posted below. The mean and median were both 167 out of 200, with a standard deviation of 21.84. The high score was a 198. Yet again, most of the class did very well, so yet again, congratulations. Tomorrow in class we'll be starting chapter 13. The quiz tomorrow will be on sections 12.8 and 12.9. See you then.
- July 19th - Today in class we finished sections 12.8 and 12.9. The midterm tomorrow will cover sections 12.1 through 12.9, so, all of chapter 12. The (correct) solutions to quiz 7 are posted below, and the quiz grades have been posted on Canvas. The exam tomorrow will begin at 10:30 AM, and go until noon. You can use two pages of notes, front and back, if you'd like. Tomorrow there will be office hours and a review hour as usual. See you tomorrow!
- July 18th - Today in class we finisehd section 12.6, covered section 12.7, and started section 12.8. The quiz tomorrow will be on sections 12.6 and 12.7. The solutions to quiz 6 are posted below, and the quiz grades have been posted on Canvas. We might have lecture bleed a little into the review time tomorrow afternoon. See you tomorrow!
- July 17th - Today in class we finished section 12.3, covered sections 12.4 and 12.5, and started section 12.6. The quiz tomorrow will be on sections 12.3, 12.4, and 12.5. The solutions to quiz 5 are posted below, and the quiz grades have been posted on Canvas. See you tomorrow!
- July 16th - Today in class we covered sections 12.1, 12.2, and most of section 12.3. The quiz tomorrow will be on only sections 12.1 and 12.2. The midterms were handed back in class today. The solutions to today's quiz (Quiz 4) are posted below. See you tomorrow!
- July 13th - Happy Friday the 13th! Today was our first midterm, covering the material primarily from chapter 11. The midterms are now graded, and your grades are online. The midterm was out of 200, and the average score was 175, with a standard deviation of 21.7. The highest score was a 198. Most of the class did very well. So, congratulations everybody! See you in class on Monday.
- July 12th - Today in class we covered section 11.9, and after the quiz we had a review session for tomorrow's midterm. The midterm tomorrow will start no sooner than 10:30 AM, and you'll be given an hour for the midterm. Midterm review problems, and practice midterms, are available here.
- July 11th - Today in class we finished section 11.5, and covered sections 11.6 and 11.8. The quiz tomorrow will be on sections 11.4, 11.5, and 11.6. The review problems for the midterm on Friday are now posted. We're really moving fast through the lecture notes, we're way ahead on schedule, and the hour and a half of lecture from 10:30 AM until noon is a killer. So, today we decided to have only an hour of lecture, from 10:30 AM until 11:30 AM, then a quiz/break, and then another hour of lecture from noon until 1:00 PM. We'll be getting out a half-hour earlier. I reserve the right to switch back to our original schedule if we find we're moving through the material too slowly, but for now, we'll see how this change works. First day of the change will be tomorrow. See you then!
- July 10th - Today in class we covered sections 11.3, 11.4, and part of 11.5. The quiz tomorrow will be on only sections 11.2 and 11.3. Our first real quiz was today in class, and the quiz is now graded and the grades are posted on Canvas. Speaking of Canvas, it should now be published and up and running, so you should go there and try to check your grades. Email me or call me if there is a problem. I'll hand back the quizzes tomorrow. See you then!
- July 9th - Today was our first day of class. We covered sections 10.4, 11.1, and 11.2, although the quiz tomorrow will only be on sections 10.4 and 11.1. Also, we won't be using WebCT for posting grades, as it is dead. A new system, Canvas, will be used. I'll have more details about it, and grades posted, as soon as possible.
- July 8th - The website for the class is (obviously) up and running. Class begins tomorrow, Monday, July 9th. You can find the syllabus and other related administrative information here, along with the class notes. As the class goes on, I'll be posting announcements, exams, exam solutions, and other class material on this page. I'll see you tomorrow!
