Announcements
- August 9th The final exam is now graded, and the grades are posted on WebCT. The final exam and its solutions are posted on the class website. Final grades have been calculated, and are also posted on WebCT. To remind, the quizzes are worth 20% of the final grade, and the two lowest quiz scores are dropped. The two best midterms are each worth 20%, the worst midterm 10%, and the final 30%. If a student did better on her final than on her worst midterm, the final grade replaced the worst midterm score. This means that the final would be worth 40% and the worst midterm worth nothing if the second worst midterm were better than the final, and the final would be worth 50%, the worst midterm worth nothing, and the second worst midterm 10% if the final exam score were better than the second worst midterm. I know this might be a bit confusing, so if you have questions, please email me. The final grades are as mentioned posted on WebCT, but are not posted on Campus Information Systems, and will not be until Friday evening. If you would like to discuss your final grade with me, or you would like to pick up a copy of your final exam, please email me or call me to let me know and we can arrange a time. I should be in my office most of the day every day this week. The final grades were quite good for this class, and it's been one of the strongest math classes I've ever taught. So, good job to you all, thank you for a great three and a half weeks, and I wish you the best in all you do. -Dylan
- August 3rd - Midterm 3 was handed back in class today, as was quiz 11. We finished section 14.4 today, and covered section 14.5. We gave a cursory treatment to sections 14.6 and 14.7, but these sections will not be on the final exam. Speaking of the final exam, it's tomorrow! The exam will cover every section we covered in class, except sections 14.6 and 14.7. It will be from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM in our usual classroom. Also, today we took quiz 12. The quiz is now graded, the solutions are on the class website, and the scores are posted on WebCT. Remember your nerdy shirt for tomorrow. Get a good night's sleep, and good luck!
- August 2nd - The promised midterms were not graded at the beginning of class today. Sorry. But they are graded now, and the grades are posted on WebCT. I'll hand them back in class tomorrow. Also, quiz 11, which we took in class today, is now graded and the grades are also posted on WebCT. Quiz 11 and its solutions are now posted on the class webpage. Today we finished section 14.2 and covered section 14.3 and most of 14.4. The quiz tomorrow will be on sections 14.2 and 14.3. Note that it will not have any questions from section 14.4. Finally, the solutions to the intensive calculus III final exam from 2009 are posted below.
- August 1st - The third midterm and its solutions are now posted on the class webpage. The midterm will be graded and the grades will be posted on WebCT before class tomorrow. The midterm will be handed back in class tomorrow. We will have a quiz tomorrow on sections 13.8 and 14.1. The material on Jacobians from the lecture notes may also be on the quiz tomorrow.
- July 29th - Today I handed back quiz 9. We finished section 13.8, talked a little about Jacobians, and then covered section 14.1 and most of section 14.2. Tomorrow's midterm will be on sections 12.9, 13.1 through 13.9 except 13.5, and 14.1. We took our tenth quiz today, and those quizzes are graded and the grades are now posted on WebCT. The tenth quiz and its solutions are on the class webpage. I decided to make the quiz out of 30 points, so any points above 30 will be counted as extra credit. Remember to wear a nerdy shirt to class tomorrow for an extra credit point.
- July 28th - Today I handed back quiz 8. We covered sections 13.6, 13.7, and most of 13.8 in class. Tomorrow's quiz will be on sections 13.6 and 13.7. We took our ninth quiz today, and those quizzes are graded and the grades are now posted on WebCT. The quizzes were handed back at the end of class, and I'll bring them to class tommorrow as well. The ninth quiz and its solutions are on the class webpage.
- July 27th - Today I handed back quiz 7. We covered sections 13.2, 13.3, and 13.4 in class, and tomorrow's quiz will be on those sections. We took our eigth quiz today, and those quizzes are graded and the grades are now posted on WebCT. The eigth quiz and its solutions are on the class webpage.
- July 26th - Today I handed back the second midterm. We covered sections 12.9 and 13.1 in class, and tomorrow's quiz will be on those sections. Also, we took Quiz 7 on sections 12.6, 12.7, and 12.8. Those quizzes are now graded, and those grades are posted on WebCT. The solutions are now posted on the class website. We decided in class that the quizzes will now be out of 40 points, and I will determine the amount each question is worth before the quiz, and will put that amount on the quiz. The previous quiz scores will all be multiplied by (8/3) when calculating their impact on your final grade.
- July 22nd - Today was our second midterm exam. The midterm should be graded, and grades should be posted, by class on Monday. Also, the solutions will be posted by then as well. On Monday we'll have a quiz on sections 12.6 through 12.8. Have a nice long weekend.
- July 21st - Today we finished section 12.6, and covered sections 12.7 and 12.8. The exam tomorrow will be on sections 12.1 through 12.8. So, all of chapter 12 exception section 12.9. Quiz 6 has been graded, and the quiz along with its solutions are now posted on the website. Note there was a typo on the quiz. The quiz posted on the website has the typo corrected, but its pointed out in the solutions. For most people the typo wasn't a problem, and I believe only one student's answer addressed the typo. I awarded this student full points for the question. If you think you deserve more points on question 3 as a result of this typo, please let me know and if it's reasonable I'll give them to you. There will be office hours and a review session before the exam tomorrow. You'll have 2 hours for the exam, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. If you have any questions or issues, please let me know.
- July 20th - Today we covered sections 12.4, 12.5, and most of 12.6. The quiz tomorrow will be on sections 12.4 and 12.5. We took quiz 5, and the grades for this quiz are now posted on WebCT. The solutions are also posted on the website.
- July 19th - Today the first midterm was handed back in class. The midterm scores are all posted on WebCT. We took quiz 4, and the grades for this are also now on WebCT. The solutions are posted on the website. The sections we covered in class today were sections 12.1, 12.2, and 12.3. These will be the sections on the quiz tomorrow.
- July 16th - Today was the first midterm. The midterm will be graded out of 200 points. The grades should be posted on WebCT by Sunday evening, and I'll hand back the midterms on Monday. The solutions are now posted on the class website.
- July 15th - Today we covered sections 11.8 and 11.9. Tomorrow will be our first midterm. It will cover section 10.4 and sections 11.1 through 11.9, except 11.7. So, all the sections we've covered in class. You can bring a full page of notes, front and back, for the midterm. We'll have a review session as usual at 9:30 AM, and then the exam will begin at about 10:30 AM. You'll have two hours to take the exam. If you finish early, you may leave early. Also, quiz 3 has been graded, and your grades are posted on WebCT. The quiz and its solutions are posted on the class website. Also, remember to wear a nerdy shirt tomorrow for a point of extra credit on the quiz.
- July 14th - Today we covered sections 11.4, 11.5, and 11.6. The quiz tomorrow will be on these sections. There was an error with problem 3 of the first quiz, and this error showed up in the grading. This error has now been corrected, and the corrected solutions are now posted on the website. Also, those of you who pointed out to me that this error affected your score, I've corrected your score and posted the new score on WebCT. If you still have an incorrectly graded quiz, please let me know soon. Also, the scores for quiz 2 are now posted on WebCT.
- July 13th - Today we covered sections 11.2 and 11.3. The quiz tomorrow will be on these sections. Note the quiz tomorrow will not cover section 11.4 on the cross product. Also, there were some concerns about the lack of formulas on the quiz today, and it was mentioned that Kelly allowed students to use a formula sheet for quizzes in calculus I and calculus II. So, in keeping with continuity, I'll allow students to use a formula sheet on a quiz. Don't worry about using a 3 by 5 card. A usual sheet of paper is fine. Front and back is fine as well. The scores for today's quiz are now posted on WebCT. The quiz and its solution set are posted below. Finally, remember to wear a nerdy shirt to class on Friday to get an extra credit point on the midterm.
- July 12th - Today was the first day of class. We covered the syllabus and went over the plan for the next four weeks. Then we covered sections 10.4 and 11.1. I gave a "get to know you" quiz on which everybody who took it will receive 15 out of 15 points. Tomorrow will be our first real quiz, and it will cover sections 10.4 and 11.1. Also, tomorrow I will have my first office hours, and we'll have our first review session. Finally, PLEASE NOTE THE CHANGE IN THE SCHEDULE. I thought for Pioneer Day we'd have July 26th off. That's not the case. We have July 23rd off. So, next week Thursday will an exam day, there will be no class on Friday, and there will be class on July 26th. This has all been updated in the class schedule.
- July 9th - The website for the class is (obviously) up and running. Class begins on Monday, July 12th. You can find the syllabus and other related administrative information here, along with the class notes. As the class goes on, I'll be posting announcements, exams, exam solutions, and other class material on this page. I'll see you on Monday!
