Announcements
- December 18th - All final grades are now posted on WebCT. I'll be posting final grades to Campus Information Systems on December 26th. Please check your final grades on WebCT and let me know if you have any questions about them. Have a great break!
- December 10th - There will be a review session today from 5:00 PM until 6:30 PM in JWB 208. Also, I'll be around my office all day and reachable by email if you need to contact me or talk with me. Sorry for the late notice about the review session.
- December 6th - A sheet of suggested formulas for the final is posted below. Please check it out and commit them to memory. Also, I sent out an email saying the final is on Thursday, December 11th. It should have said Tuesday, December 11th.
- December 5th - Today was our second day of review for the final exam. The first take home practice finals were due if you decided to do it. The second take home practice final is posted and is due on Friday. Also, the solutions to the first timed practice final are posted. You can take the second timed practice final by coming by my office during the times listed above some time this week. Also, project and group evaluations are posted. Please fill these out and hand them in either on Friday or at the final.
- November 28th - Today was our second day of project work. Hopefully you're very close to completely done with your project by now, if not completely done. Also, the quiz on chapter 10 will be on Friday, which is when projects are due. Friday will also be the day when the take home practice finals are available online.
- November 19th - We have changed the schedule for the next two weeks. Instead of the final quiz on Wednesday, we'll have a lecture on fractals this Wednesday. This is a for fun lecture that should, hopefully, be interesting, but will not be on material you are expected to know. It will be the last day when I introduce any new material. The week after Thanksgiving break we will have two days of project meeting on Monday and Wednesday, and then we will take Quiz 4 on chapter 10 on Friday, November 30th. That is also the day when group projects will be due. The week after break I will be around to answer questions on projects or anything else, but I will not be conducting standard lectures. The last week of class will just be review, and there will be extra credit available for students who do practice finals.
- November 7th - We had a review for the midterm today, and there will be another one tomorrow at 4:00 PM in LCB 323. The midterm will be this Friday, November 9th during class. It will cover chapters 4, 8, and 9.
- November 2nd - Assignment 9 was handed out in class today. It is available here and on WebCT. It will be due next Friday. There is a slight change in plans to our schedule. We covered exponential modeling today, and next week we will review modeling on Monday, and have a general review for the midterm on Wednesday. There will also be a general review for the midterm on Thursday during my office hours, in a room that will be determined next week. I'll announce the room in class as soon as I know it.
- October 31st - Happy Halloween! We had our costume contest today. Congratulations to Joane Mann, James Morris, Erin Akers, Christie Franke, Stacey Horton, Dora Blakey Diana, Carson Zejdel, and our winner Tracy Taylor!
- October 29th - Assignment 8 was handed out in class today. It will be due one week from today, on Monday, November 5th. This Friday, November 2nd Assignment 9 will go out and it will be due next Friday, November 9th. In class next time we will have a costume contest as it will be Halloween. I will give 3 extra credit points on Quiz 3 for the best costume, 2 for the runner up, and 1 for the second runner up. Winners will be determined democratically, with ties to be broken if necessary in a manner of my choosing.
- October 19th - Sorry so long since an announcement. The third quiz on chapter 4 has been pushed back to next Friday, October 26th. It will cover the material from chapter 4 that we covered in class, so the best way to review for the quiz would be to do problems from the first 3 sections of chapter 4 and review assignment 6, which has many, many problems similar to the ones you can expect to see on the quiz. Also, assignment 6 was due today, and solutions are posted below. Assignment 7 also went out today, and is due on October 26th. You can find assignment 7 below, as well as on WebCT.
- September 28th - As announced in the email and in class on Wednesday, we did not have the first midterm today, and will be having the first midterm next Friday, on October 5th. The midterm will cover chapters 2 and 3 from the textbook. All lectures scheduled for next week are moved up one day. So, for example, today was the first day out of two that we will be covering compound interest. Also, there was no homework handed out in class today, but it should be online this weekend, and will be handed out in class on Monday. It will be a double long, double credit assignment, but, as a result of fall break, the assignment will not be due until Friday, October 19th. Also, I did not hand back assignment 4 in class today, but will hand it back on Monday, and the grades should be up on WebCT this weekend (probably tonight).
- September 24th - First off, some apologies. While I passed out assignment 5 on Friday I didn't post it online until today. It's not up on WebCT and here, but it should have been up on Friday. Also, when I was writing up my lecture notes I kind of went on auto pilot and made a silly mistake. Glad it was caught in class today, but sorry about that. It happens, but it's embarassing. Also, we're having a midterm on Friday. It covers chapters 2 and 3 of the textbook. I'll be having a review for the midterm during my office hours on Thursday. I'll announce this in class on Wednesday and also via email.
- September 14th - We had our second quiz today. Also, at the start of class we discussed the project and I had the students talk to each other and form tentative groups. I also handed out an explanation of the group project that included a list of 8 pre-approved projects. This handout can be found in a new section towards the bottom of the webpage. Also, assignment 4 went out, and assignment 3 was due. The solutions for the quiz and assignment 3 are now posted below, as is assignment 4.
- September 10th - The first quiz and first two assignments are graded and will be handed back in class today. Assignment 3 is now posted on this webpage. Also, along with this webpage I will now be using WebCT. You can access this by logging into your My.Utah.edu page, which can be reached through the main university homepage. You can find the assignments, solutions, and quizzes there as well as on this webpage. You will also be able to check your grades on WebCT. This should be up and running tomorrow.
- August 31st - The first assignment was due today and we had our first quiz in class. The second assignment was handed out in class, and is also available here on the webpage. There is no class on Monday because of labor day. Have a nice long weekend!
- August 29th - The solutions to the diagnostic test are now posted. Also, note that we're about a day behind in the schedule right now. I'll be posting a modified schedule online soon, but it will pretty much be the schedule we have right now with most of the dates pushed back a day.
- August 27th - The first assignment has gone out and is up here on the webpage. It is due on Friday, August 30th, the day of the first quiz. Please work through the first assignment before the quiz, as the problems on the quiz will be similar to those on the asssignment, which in turn are similar to those on the diagnostic test, which you should also review.
- August 26th - There was a typo in the grading explanation on the syllabus. It has been corrected, and the corrected syllabus is now posted. The typo wasn't in the grade breakdown, but just in the explanation below.
- August 22nd - Please note that there will be no office hours on Thursday, August 23rd.
- August 22nd - The diagnostic test was handed out in class today, and is available on this webpage as well. Also posted is information about the tutoring center. Please look over the diagnostic test and try to do it, as our first quiz will be based on this test.
- August 20th - Welcome to Math 1030! No announcements yet, except that I believe the class is full so if you need an add code please either email me and tell me about it.
