What is Java?

Java is a new computing language that is specifically designed for networking and building interactive web pages. Some of the attributes that make it so popular and growing so quickly are:

• Java makes it extremely easy to generate graphics.
• It can be used to generate parts of web pages called applets that a user can interact with.
• It is extremely portable.

The book I found most useful for learning Java is by Alexander Newman et al, Special Edition, Using Java, Que publishers, 1996, ISBN 0-7897-0604-0, 1-800-428-5331. You may also like Teach yourself Java in 21 Days by Laura Lemay and Charles L. Perkins, ISBN 1-57521-030-4 which gets you to the interesting topics faster but does not explain things as clearly and sometimes lets you dangling craving for more information.
