Text: Intermediate Algebra, 4th edition, by Larson and Hostetler.

Prerequisite: Teaching methods and practicum courses. You should be in your
senior year of the Mathematics Teaching major.

Math Education Website: The math department has a web page
for math teachers in K-12 schools.

Grading: The grades will be calculated as follows:
Attending Math1010 class: 35%
Grading: 10%
Teaching: 40%
Reflections on Teaching: 15%
Basically, you are expected to (1) attend all Math1010 lecture classes (MWF 11:50-12:40),
(2) teach your Tuesday review sessions, (3) write up a 1-3 paragraph in-depth reflection
every week regarding your teaching experience, and (4) help grade exams. I expect you to
treat this responsibility professionally and maintain your commitment to me and the
students for your Tuesday teaching sessions.

Teaching: Every Tuesday, I will attend one of the sessions (rotating each week) taught
by the teaching interns so that I can give you feedback regarding your teaching. During your
Tuesday classes, you'll cover one review topic that I assign to you the week prior, and then
spend the rest of the hour answering homework and/or review questions.

WebCT: I will put your grades online on WebCT.
You can get there easily from the main University of Utah website www.utah.edu.
(There's also a link from my website.) To log in, you use the same student id
and password that you use for Campus Information System. I do my best to
update the grades on a regular basis and keep everything accurate.
However, I would advise you to check your grades often to make sure there
were no data entry mistakes. I'm always happy to correct any mistakes I've
made. You just need to let me know about them.

Grading Scale: The grade scale will be the usual:
A (93-100), A- (90-92), B+ (87-89), B (83-86), B- (80-82), C+ (77-79),
C (73-76), C- (70-72), D+ (67-69), D (63-66), D- (60-62), E (0-59).
