The University maintains a great
page with links to downloadable
software, including Adobe Acrobat Reader (near the bottom
of their page), which is free and lets you
view the .pdf files below on your home computer. On the
Math machines, acrobat is activated automatically if
you go to a .pdf file. They also have links to free
telnet and ftp software so you can access Math and University
servers from home. Have a look at this
page, you might find something you need.
www.utah.edu/uwebresources/software.html MAPLE PROJECT III: EARTHQUAKE!!! (Project will be finalized
by Friday April 6th at 5:00 p.m.
2250quake.txt Maple text version of the earthquake project, you
can read this from you browser, or save it from your browser and open
it as a "Maple text" document, from Maple.
2250quake.mws This gibberish will look great if you download it
from the internet and then open it from Maple, as a Maple worksheet.
2250quake.pdf pdf format of project, worthless if you try to
open from Maple, but good if you just want to see what the
project is about or get a hard copy to print out.
(pdf means Portable Document Format, invented
by Adobe, which was co-founded by John Warnock, who is a University of
Utah almunus: BA, Masters in Math, Ph.D. in Engineering.) You can
download this version to get a printable copy which you can view with
Adobe Acrobat Reader (see above for free download links, if you're on a home
computer and need to get it).
MAPLE PROJECT II: Available Wednesday March 7
tnarrows Go to this link for the Tacoma Narrows bridge project.
The project consists of a number of www pages, and ultimately a
solutions template with which you will create your hand-in file.
Solutions:
2250proj2ans.pdf pdf format of solutions
2250proj2ans.mws Maple worksheet version of above, including
all plot outputs (big file)
proj2ans.mws Maple worksheet of just the Maple commands for
the solution file (small file)
MAPLE PROJECT I: Available Tuesday January 16
DEplot warning: If you get the error
message "non-numeric vertex definition" when trying
to use DEplot it could be because not everything in
your deqtn is a decimal number (e.g. an expression
like sqrt(2) is bad, although Maple knows that
sqrt(2.0) is O.K.) You should be able to make your
error message go away by trying to DEplot
evalf(deqtn) rather than deqtn.
Thanks to the student who brought this
problem to my attention.
2250springtut.mws An introduction to the Math computer lab,
a Maple tutorial, and
a Maple-based exposition of the section 1.5 computer project, which
is the basis for the first Maple Project. Since .mws files
are Maple worksheets they look like gibberish in your browser,
but if you download them and open them from Maple all should be
clear.
2250springtut.pdf pdf version of the .mws file above. You can
print this file out or view it with Adobe Acrobat, but it would be
worthless if you tried to open it from Maple.
2250template1.mws Maple Worksheet template for answers to Project I.
Download this and open it from Maple.
2250template1.pdf Portable Document Format of solution template
for Project I. Good for viewing or printing,
with Acrobat reader.
