The Course. Math 1180 is the second semester of a full year calculus and statistics sequence designed to introduce the mathematics necessary to do biology in an increasingly qunatitative field. The sequence is for students with little or no previous calculus. We will cover one section of the book per lecture.
Computer Labs. You will meet for one hour weekly with the TA for a computer lab in LCB 115. Lab assignments will be due the on the following Tuesday and will account for 10% of your grade. The material covered in the labs will be fair game for tests and quizzes.

Homework. Homework will be due weekly on Wednesdays. The problems for the book have been extensively revised. I will hand out the problems that are assigned, but consult the web page for other examples. Hand in assigned problems from the previous week.

Exams. There will be three mid-terms, and a comprehensive final. The tentative exam schedule is:
Midterm 1 (Chapter 5) Wednesday, February 4
Midterm 2 (Chapter 6) Monday, March 8
Midterm 3 (Chapter 7) Friday, April 9
Final Exam (Chapters 5-8) Thursday, May 6 8:00am - 10:00am
Grading. Grades will be weighted according to the following scheme. You can either drop your lowest midterm or halve the final exam grade.
Each midterm 10%
Brief Research Paper12.5%
Final Exam 30%
Written homework 15%
Computer lab write-ups 12.5%
